Tobacco Road: "Every band needs a song that turns the crowd into part of the performance."

Emerging blues-rock band Tobacco Road have released their new single, “Let Me Down Easy.” The song is the third single from the band’s upcoming project, which is expected later this year, following “Back In My Groove” and “Baby Goodbye.”

The new track brings together the band’s blues, rock, alt-country and Southern soul influences. One of its main features is the large harmony-driven chorus, which has already become an important part of Tobacco Road’s live shows. The band said, “Every band needs a song that turns the crowd into part of the performance. For us, that's ‘Let Me Down Easy.’”

During live performances, the band strips the song back during the first chorus for an a cappella singalong, giving the audience a chance to join in. "We always describe it as our version of 'Seven Bridges Road'—a communal, harmony-driven moment that anchors the set and brings everyone in the room together. But instead of a traditional singalong, it's a party bayou funk banger.”

“Let Me Down Easy” originally came together during a rehearsal in the band’s garage. Guitarist Briggs and Nashville singer-songwriter Leon Majcen were playing guitar when Majcen came up with a simple riff. Briggs then started adding harmonies around the hook, “Heyyyyyyy, won’t ya let me down easy,” and the basic song was finished in around 30 minutes.

The lyrics focus on being in your early twenties and the uncertainty that comes with it. Musically, the track keeps Tobacco Road’s alt-country sound while adding more bayou funk elements through the rhythm section of TJ Fink and Madi Schoninger. The verses are kept fairly sparse before moving into bigger harmonies and choruses. Hayden’s guitar solo also brings some chicken pickin’ and blues influences into the track.
