Vision Video puts the punk in post-punk in their newest single, Balaclava Kiss. Hailing from Athens, Georgia, this post-punk goth rock band opens their new release with an echoing guitar riff reminiscent of the band’s goth roots before the drums pick up and launch the song into a more lively tone.
Vision Video’s music is no stranger to darker topics like death and betrayal, with this song being no different. Lead singer and guitarist, Dusty Gannon, evokes powerful mental imagery with lyrics about current conflicts and issues from across the world without shying away from the emotions they invoke in those who witness them. The energetic drums, however, provide a cushion for the lyrics to land on, keeping the sombre subject matter from taking over the song.
Balaclava Kiss is a love letter to the origins of the punk genre from which post-punk sprung, and balances its message with a masterful performance. They are set to record their next LP, Modern Horror in the near future, this release being a promising look into the band’s future projects.
