East London singer-songwriter Talia Rae has recently gone through quite an exciting few months: she released the official music video for her new song "Rocket Woman" via Glassnote Records and opened for the queen of rock Stevie Nicks at BST Hyde Park last July 12th.
"Rocket Woman" is Talia's second single, following her debut "Not A Heartbreak," where she made a strong impression with her powerful vocals and confidence, both qualities she showcased brightly for her performance at BST Hyde Park last July 12.
“A big inspiration for this music video came from Radiohead;" she mentions about the release. "No Surprises. I remember watching their video for the first time and just feeling completely immersed into the world they created. I felt a sense of escapism in a trippy kind of way, and wanted people to feel similarly when watching Rocket Woman as I feel that’s what the song calls for. The contrast between being underwater and being anything you want to be and drinking a cup of tea in an ordinary setting felt like that was the epitome of what being a Rocket Woman is.”
Directed by Sarah Dattani Tucker, the music video features Talia escaping reality and plunging into a world of limitless imagination. The lyricism in "Rocket Woman" captures a sense of ambition and dreaming beyond earthly confines, emphasizing the tension between reality and aspiration. The blend of personal reflection and cosmic aspirations gives the song a dreamy yet motivational quality.
“This song almost wrote itself. It felt like it fell out of thin air! So the inspiration kind of came once the song was written as I then realised what it was about. I knew I wanted to create a world that people can escape into when listening to the song, and to create a feeling of empowerment.”
“I wanted to create two opposing worlds, one which you can relate to and one which you can escape into. When I wrote Rocket Woman, I always knew I wanted the visuals to reflect both the weirdness and the reality of the song, and being underwater to me felt like it was the perfect way of showing what escapism looks like in a masochistic way.”
Talia's performance at BTS Hyde Park was nothing short of mesmerizing. Jumping into The Birdcage Stage at around 4:00 pm with a top-notch band behind her, her dynamic range captivated the audience, effortlessly transitioning from intimate moments to powerful crescendos. She performed her singles and even an unreleased track.
"I knew I wanted to create a world that people can escape into when listening to the song, and to create a feeling of empowerment.”
“I can’t believe I can say that I supported Stevie Nicks!" she mentions about BST. "I honestly feel in disbelief of my life sometimes haha. I feel it’s a day that I’m going to tell my kids about. I loved every minute of performing and loved every minute of watching both Brandi Carlile and of course Stevie’s set (when she bought out Harry Styles, I almost fainted)! I want to relive it!”
There is no doubt that, with that voice and gorgeous lyricism that she personifies in her performances, Talia Rae is a Rocket Woman rising high.
