New York trio Sunflower Bean returns with their latest single, "Teach Me To Be Bad," a bold teaser from their upcoming EP, SHAKE. Set for release on September 27th via Lucky Number, this project marks a significant milestone for the band as their first fully self-produced and recorded endeavour, promising to deliver some of the heaviest sounds they’ve ever created.

The trio—comprised of vocalist and bassist Julia Cumming, guitarist and vocalist Nick Kivlen, and drummer Olive Faber—dives deep into their roots for SHAKE. “This EP was inspired by our first years as a DIY band, the spirit that birthed us and gave us the chance to have this enduring journey together," the band explains. "We wrote, recorded, engineered, and produced these songs so nothing was filtered through anyone else’s idea of us. We always felt like rock and roll was a feeling, not a sound. But sometimes there is no subverting it or explaining it. We’re now offering it exactly as it occurred to us.”

"Teach Me To Be Bad" encapsulates this raw energy and spirit. According to the band, the song explores how “a chance meeting with a special person can change your life forever. It can be exhilarating and frightening to fall madly for someone you barely know." The track captures both the intensity and vulnerability of such an encounter, striking a balance between Sunflower Bean’s gritty rock edge and a more introspective lyrical approach.

To coincide with the release of SHAKE, Sunflower Bean will unveil a 14-minute performance-based video, presenting each track through the lens of the natural elements: earth, wind, water, fire, and metal. This visual experience is being crafted in collaboration with Toronto-based director Isaac Roberts, adding a new dimension to the band's music with a unique artistic interpretation of their latest work.
