Sleep Theory have shared Paper Hearts - Reimagined, a new digital companion to their 2023 EP featuring lo-fi and stripped-back versions of each track.
The new versions remove much of the hard-rock intensity of the original Paper Hearts EP, placing greater emphasis on vocalist Cullen Moore's range. “Gone or Staying - Reimagined” and “Numb - Reimagined” use acoustic textures, while “Another Way - Reimagined” and “Fallout - Reimagined” introduce piano-led arrangements that give both songs a more restrained and reflective character.
The result is a release that reveals both the strengths and limitations of Sleep Theory's songwriting away from its usual weight. Without the guitars and rhythmic force, some tracks lose too much of their physical impact and can feel a little boneless, leaving the arrangements with less to carry them. Others, however, prove much stronger on their own terms, with Moore's vocals bringing the lyrics into sharper focus and giving songs like “Fallout” and “Another Way” room to shine.
Paper Hearts - Reimagined may not work equally well across the entire tracklist, but where the stripped-back approach clicks, it reveals a more intimate side of Sleep Theory that deserves attention.
Originally released in September 2023, Paper Hearts became an important release in Sleep Theory's development. “Fallout” went on to reach the top ten at Active Rock radio in 2024, helping establish the Memphis band's growing presence within the rock scene.
