Shower Curtain, the four-piece NYC band led by Brazilian-American artist Victoria Winter, have just announced their debut album "words from a wishing well" out October 18 via Angel Tapes/Fire Talk Records.
Along with the announcement, they have released the lead track “wish u well” and its official music video, a preview of the sonically swirling but complex echo chamber of early adulthood captured by Victoria and her bandmates; Cody Hudgins on bass, Ethan Williams on guitar, and Sean Terrell on drums.
"wish u well" is a self-produced wave of fresh air inside the scene, a promising sneak peek of what their forthcoming October album will bring to the table. Co-crafted by Victoria Winter and guitarist Ethan Williams, the track straddles the line between the band’s bedroom pop origins and their evolving sound, marked by intricate guitar riffs and introspective lyricism.
Victoria Winter's haunting vocals lead the charge and reverberate throughout the song almost like a spell as she repeats the chorus. Her lyrics poignantly capture the disorienting sensation of having the rug pulled out from under you—a feeling all too familiar in the tumultuous journey of early adulthood.
The accompanying official music video Directed by Trevor Scholl (Been Stellar) and starring Brenna Gonzalez (Lola Star) enhances the song's narrative, offering a visually immersive experience that complements the swirling, complex soundscape of the single. It captures the essence of Shower Curtain’s aesthetic—both nostalgic and forward-thinking, introspective yet expansive.
“It’s an ode to the mentally healing aspect of going for a walk and how stepping out invites the unexplainable. I wanted to capture the sense of exploration found in fantasy films while capturing places we frequent and not relying on overtly “magical” props. ‘wish u well’ is a wistful and bittersweet song. I ultimately wanted to extend these emotions with a daydream in a video," Trevor says.

The band’s instrumental prowess is on full display, creating a rich tapestry of sound that envelops the listener.
Despite the song’s divergence from the heavier shoegaze and grunge elements that characterize Shower Curtain’s newer material, "wish u well" retains a distinctive charm. The production, described by Winter as “unmatched and next level,” is a display of carefully traced guitar work and the atmospheric echoes of the vocals (a clear nod to the band's early days).
“‘wish u well’ is about the feeling of having the rug swept from underneath you,” says bandleader Victoria Winter. “In a lot of ways, I think this song is a lot of what my teenage self wished the project could create. That vision has long changed and I am definitely aware of this song not having the more shoegaze and heavier grunge elements that represent the project's new phase and is more similar to the old phase of Shower Curtain. Yet, I still think its production is unmatched and next level between Ethan and I.”
