With their new album CRASH! arriving digitally on June 26, RAT BOY have released one final preview in the form of new single HIGH LIFE, accompanied by a brand-new music video.
The track combines the band's indie-rock foundations with the ska-punk and two-step influences that feature heavily throughout the upcoming record. Lyrically, HIGH LIFE looks at the pursuit of status and wealth, and the extreme lengths some people will go to in order to achieve it.
Speaking about the song, the band said: “'HIGH LIFE' has all the things we want to show – pure energy from all four of us locking in at once, and with Tim Armstrong playing lead guitar. It came together in about an hour, mixing storytelling, crazy drums, and fighting basslines; it’s become a blueprint for where we’re headed next.”
As a final teaser for CRASH!, HIGH LIFE does its job well. The track is relentless, driven by sharp bass work, tight rhythms, vocals that never let up and sharp lyricism. It is a fast, no-frills burst of energy that puts RAT BOY’s strengths front and centre.
