RAT BOY are back with “SICK OF IT,” out now as a preview of CRASH! landing June 26 via Hellcat Records.
The video moves fast, everything feels direct, restless, and the track carries that same energy straight through. Frontman Rat Boy (Jordan Cardy) locks into a very specific frustration and puts it out front: “Why am I glued to a phone screen, like it’s a routine? Am I really living, or is this a false dream?”
That line sits right at the centre of the single. "I wrote half of ‘SICK OF IT’ at the end of 2024,” shares Cardy. “It’s about doing the same thing every day, caught in a cycle working just to get by, not being able to save up because everything is accounted for, so you feel like you can’t move forward or make plans.” That tension runs through the track in a focused, steady way.
RAT BOY—Jordan Cardy (vocals & guitar), Harry Todd (guitar), Liam Haygarth (bass), and Noah Booth (drums)—worked on CRASH! with punk veteran Tim Armstrong. The sessions blend their earlier indie rock instincts with the ska-punk and two-step direction that has shaped their recent releases. Cardy describes the drum sound from those sessions as fully unprocessed and captured in the room as it happened. “The room wasn’t soundproof; it was a single thin wooden room with no deadening, so the drum kit sounded so insane and live,” explains Cardy. “We didn’t need to add any triggers to the drums; it’s all real! We all shared a headphone mix through splitters, and we pretty much couldn’t hear what we were playing. I think it might have only been in one ear, too, so we had to trust ourselves that we were playing tight.”
That approach carries across CRASH! as a full 18-track record. The band built the material with live shows in mind, rehearsing arrangements until they could be delivered with full energy from start to finish. The result is a set designed for crowd reaction.
“SICK OF IT” sets the tone for "CRASH!" early, with a clear message delivered at full intensity. Listen below:
