On Thursday the 30th of May 2024 Nickelback performed their second German headline show of their UK and EU Get Rollin’ Tour at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. Six years after their last UK and Europe stop, they finally returned with twelve concerts in total!

They kicked off the evening with "San Quentin", which is also the first song of their latest album Get Rollin’, seizing the crowd clapping to the beat.

Next up were some old, sad bangers such as "Savin’ Me" and "Far Away", from their 2005 album All The Right Reasons.

Throughout the concert Chad, the band's lead vocalist and guitarist, had a lot of fun trying to speak German and even started to do a little cover of "Du Hast" by the pretty popular German band Rammstein together with the rhythm guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Ryan Peake.

A surprise song was "She Keeps Me Up" from their 2014 published album No Fixed Address, which they played for the first time since 2018. Shortly afterwards followed by a cover together with Katie Lloyd, Thom Rylance, Robert Lally and Joe Singleton of The Lottery Winners of "Don’t Look Back In Anger" by the very well-known English rock band Oasis.

For the track Rockstar, two women from the crowd were brought onto stage to perform together with the band, nailing the performance.

Overall they played a decent mix of old and new songs, ending the evening with "something heavy“ as Chad stated: "Burn It to the Ground" of their 2008 hit album "Dark Horse".

I have to finish by saying that Nickelback might be the most hated band out there, but they are definitely worth a proper listen without any prejudices or gridlocked opinions.
