Los Angeles indie mainstays MyVeronica and Friend’s House are teaming up for a collaborative split EP titled Farewell Skylines, available everywhere on August 8, 2025. Today, MyVeronica offer the first taste with “Sacred Heart”, a track that dials back the fuzz and embraces vulnerability, both musically and emotionally.
"Sacred Heart is a practice of vulnerability,” says Mia Lin, frontperson of MyVeronica. “The use of clean tones and sparse arrangements cultivates an honesty that is beautiful and painfully raw. Moments of calm are interrupted by screaming guitars, echoing the volatile nature of life.”
Equal parts delicate and explosive, the track explores themes of love and resilience with a sonic approach that departs from the band’s earlier, grittier textures. Lin adds, “This song is an expression of love, a reminder to hold on to the things that matter most—even if it hurts.”
When asked about the concept behind the EP, Lin shares that Farewell Skylines was inspired by the legacy of ‘90s emo splits. “Some of our favourite bands, like Mineral, Jimmy Eat World, Christie Front Drive, collaborated on splits that marked the overlap between their bands and their shared influences,” she says. “There’s so much cross-pollination in the LA scene—we wanted to celebrate that.”
Friend’s House’s Tristin echoes the sentiment, adding, “The title refers to the spiritual act of saying farewell to some place and some time; moving on to new places and different times, trying to hold on to infinity in the ephemeral.”
Farewell Skylines marks a shift in sound and perspective for both bands—an homage to the past, but firmly rooted in the present.
