Pittsburgh-based pop punk band Main Street Detour is back with a new single, “The Art of Gaslighting,” released as the first taste of their highly anticipated album Becoming Someone You Knew. With an emotionally charged, energetic sound, Main Street Detour brings listeners a raw and introspective track that explores the toxic complexities of relationships.
At the heart of “The Art of Gaslighting” is a powerful reflection on staying in a relationship that ultimately does more harm than good. Vocalist and guitarist Niko Vasilatos explains, “The song is about my struggle of staying in the relationship or gaslighting myself into breaking the cycle and walking away.” Rather than placing blame on the other person, Vasilatos turns the lens inward, offering a vulnerable look at the emotional battles that come with letting go of something unhealthy. The result is a poignant anthem for anyone stuck in a similar cycle of self-doubt and emotional turmoil.
Main Street Detour’s blend of pop punk, emo, and hardcore influences is clear on this track. In November, the band hit the road with fellow Pittsburgh pop punk outfit Crash Nebula. With the release of “The Art of Gaslighting” and their upcoming album, Main Street Detour shows no signs of slowing down.
