Maggie Lindemann is in her element with this new pop brat era, and “one of the ones” proves it. The new single is a gritty, melodic gut-punch that separates her from the alt-pop/rock lane she’s been carving out over the past couple of years and proves she can do both.
Gone (for now) are the heavy guitars and full-throttle angst of SUCKERPUNCH. In their place? Bouncier beats, attitude-laced vocals, and a super catchy hook that claims: “You could be the one or just one of the ones”. From the sharp “please hold me but don’t get attached” to the sassy “snap, snap, bitch, better get your Nikon,” this song is full of bratty confidence. It’s fun, messy, and has that Y2K pop-punk vibe but way more pop polish.
The beat is light and catchy, perfect for the summer, and Maggie’s voice switches between sweet and snarky, just right, matching the back-and-forth vibe of the lyrics. Maggie sounds very comfortable in this sonic space. Her vocals glide between soft, venom-laced verses and a biting, anthemic chorus, tied together in just over two minutes.
If you like your pop with a little bite and a whole lot of attitude, this one’s for you. Maggie’s got that vibe down, and honestly, it’s impossible not to get hooked.
