Maddie Regent Explores Complex Feelings in "Sleeptalking"

Brooklyn-based pop sensation Maddie Regent makes a captivating return with her latest single, "Sleeptalking," marking a fresh chapter in her musical journey. Following the success of her sophomore EP, Girl of Your Dreams, released in late 2023, Maddie has been diligently crafting a new collection of pop tracks. "Sleeptalking," the first single from this forthcoming body of work, represents a seamless blend of Maddie’s introspective songwriting and innovative production.

Collaborating once again with her partner, producer, and songwriter Cade Hoppe, Maddie recorded "Sleeptalking" in their cozy Brooklyn home studio. The track also benefits from the additional production touch of Harper James of Eighty Ninety, enriching its soundscape. The result is a song that effortlessly marries organic instrumentation with ethereal synth-pop elements, creating a sound that feels both grounded and otherworldly.

“Sleeptalking” delves into the complex emotions of wanting to feel happiness about something that should bring joy but instead brings discomfort. “The song is about the paradox of self-sabotage,” explains Maddie. “It's about wanting to be happy about something you should be happy about, but you aren’t. And the longer you avoid confrontation, the more you wish for things to go south so your unhappiness feels justified. It’s classic self-sabotage, and you know it.”
