The rising British alt-pop band LEAP are back with another single, “Bury Me,” a more upbeat, fast-paced track following their recent release, “Bloodlines.”
I immediately loved the instrumentation right from the start. It comes out strong and attention-grabbing, with a gorgeous chord progression and subtle backing harmonies that add so much to the overall sound. I also really like the production choice to have the song get quieter and louder at certain points, slowly building into the powerhouse of a chorus. The melody is extremely catchy and enticing, but what especially stood out to me were the lead singer’s vocals. You can hear the yearning in his voice, which perfectly matches the emotion behind the lyrics.
The song is about going through a breakup, needing to know if the other person is struggling too, and finally admitting that you are hurting. You can hear that pain in his voice, but it is also mixed with this unexpected sense of optimism. As the band says, “The instrumental is kinda euphoric and hopeful, like a celebration or release, admitting that you are hurting and embracing the vulnerability,” and I completely agree. The vocals and instrumentation together create this really interesting combination of raw emotion, power, and longing. There is something freeing about admitting how you feel and finally laying it all on the table, and I think this song captures that feeling incredibly well.
I also really like the distortion in the production, and there are some sick guitar riffs throughout. Their sound definitely exudes that ’90s alternative and grunge feel, with hints of AC/DC and Nirvana. Especially knowing how difficult their come-up has been, it is inspiring to hear such a powerful sound from them and see them succeeding. I can only imagine how incredible this song must be to experience live.
The lead singer has said that their goal is to always “make something positive out of collective pain,” and I think that is such a great message, and honestly something music should always strive to do. Consider me a new fan! I am so happy to hear this kind of sound making its way back. It feels like LEAP is bringing back something from years ago that desperately needed a revival, while still making it feel like their own. I can’t wait to hear what they come out with next.
