Los Angeles via Atlanta-based indie pop/rock trio Koyal has released their second studio album, breathe in. breathe out, now available on all streaming platforms. The band also unveiled the official lyric video for "half alive," a thoughtful and deeply felt track that explores the journey toward truly living.

Packed with shimmering melodies, dynamic production, and polished instrumentation, breathe in. breathe out captures life's highs and lows while offering listeners a sense of comfort and optimism. To celebrate the album’s release, Koyal will host a special show at The Virgil in Los Angeles on April 25, with tickets available now.

The album is a reflection on overcoming fear, resistance, and outside expectations in order to embrace authenticity and creativity. Vocalist Pooja Prabakaran shares, "I'm so proud of how open, raw, and vulnerable we were in writing this album. It's sure to make people both dance and introspect!"

Recorded in Philadelphia at Dr. Dog’s rehearsal space, Headroom Studios, the album was co-produced by guitarist Noah Weinstein and musician Jeff Lucci (Mo Lowda & the Humble), with engineering by Ian Steinberg. Additional production contributions came from Atlanta-based Tony Doud and Desmond Myers, while Harper James handled mixing and Joe LaPorta took on mastering. Weinstein reflects, "This is the biggest record I’ve worked on, and it took a lot of meditation to decide on its sonic direction. Working with Wallace and Pooja, we blended our experiences and tastes into a rich indie pop sound that we’re incredibly proud of."

Accompanying the album release is "half alive," a cinematic slow-burn ballad that culminates in a powerful instrumental and emotional climax. Prabakaran recalls its inspiration, saying, "I woke up at 4AM with the song in my head after feeling creatively stifled by a job I felt pushed into. I recorded a voice note in the dark, and it all built from there." The song features intricate production, including vocal takes sung directly into guitar pickups, and the lyric video’s sunset-tinged animations enhance the song’s gradual intensity.
