Julia Adrian, rising artist and songwriter, is back with another classic pop single, “First Responder,” ahead of her sophomore EP, set for release this September. I’ve reviewed her work before, and she never fails to deliver that timeless, synth-driven pop sound.
This track is no exception. The instrumentation is fabulous, with a punchy synth bass, “ABBA-inspired piano” shining through, and some especially great string arrangements. The violin moments are a standout and add so much energy and character to the song.
Her vocals carry hints of artists like Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter, blending a flirty, rich tone with cheeky spoken moments that perfectly complement the song’s playfulness. The layered backing vocals also help give the track a fuller, polished feel.
The song’s message is incredibly clever and charming. Adrian uses the “first responder” metaphor throughout, casting herself as the friend who is always on call after a breakup, ready to provide whatever support is needed. It’s a concept that is instantly relatable. We all have those friends who need us after a relationship ends, especially when we’re secretly thrilled to see them finally move on from something toxic. The song captures that feeling perfectly, serving as a shot of confidence, optimism, and fun after heartbreak. It celebrates both the excitement of getting back out there and the joy of helping a friend rediscover herself. Every aspect of the track, from the lyrics to the production, supports that upbeat, empowering vibe.
