New York alternative rock trio Joudy are turning up the intensity with their new single “Three Dollar Bill,” the latest release from their upcoming album Permanent Maintenance, due out July 24 via Trash Casual.
The band describe “Three Dollar Bill” as a song rooted in emotional instability and contradiction, balancing aggression with melody while exploring destructive attachment and emotional tension. “‘3 Dollar Bill’ is an explosive, chant-ready anthem that balances abrasion with melody while digging into the uneasy cycle of wanting what will ultimately undo you,” the band explain. “‘We are in perfect danger’ and ‘you could never leave, I would never stay’ lock into a spiralling exchange that feels both confrontational and resigned.”
“Three Dollar Bill” continues the heavier direction Joudy have embraced on Permanent Maintenance, an album shaped by exhaustion, survival, and reflection. Frontman Diego Ramirez has said the record marked the first time he fully stopped to process years spent operating in survival mode, while the album’s themes also connect to broader feelings of burnout and instability.
Originally formed in San Cristobal, Venezuela, Joudy relocated after leaving the country due to the political climate before eventually settling in New York City. The trio’s experiences continue to inform both the emotional weight and urgency behind their music.
