The South London trio Honeyglaze have just released their new song "Pretty Girls", which fortifies itself as the third single from their upcoming album "Real Deal", out September 20th via Fat Possum. It follows the release of previous tracks "Cold Caller" and "Don’t".
Their sound defies easy categorization, going from post-punk bathed in alt influences to indie-infused pop, and perhaps that's the reason the band describe "Pretty Girls" as their “poppiest song yet”.
“We reworked it intermittently over a couple of years. I think we were hesitant to lean into the simplicity of it for a while, as we normally love pushing our arrangements and going for more unconventional parts. We really stripped this song back, tried not to overcomplicate it and just enjoyed how fun and groovy it is."
Lyrically, "Pretty Girls" delves into the theme of resisting the allure of bad habits. One of the standout lines in the song, “I’m in touch with my feminine side I always wear pink,” was inspired by an overheard conversation.
The band's thoughtful approach to songwriting and their willingness to experiment with different styles and themes is part of what makes Honeyglaze such a compelling act in the indie music scene. As the release date for ‘Real Deal’ approaches, fans eagerly await to see what other musical explorations Honeyglaze has in store.
