Have Mercy will come out with a deluxe version of their 2023 album ‘Numb’ with Rude Records. The original album Numb was self-produced and crafted in Brian Swindle’s Basement reminiscent of their earlier albums. The release on September 6th of ‘Still Numb’ will feature the latest single “Dead Letter” along with acoustic renditions of Numb and Alive.
The overall album is nostalgic revisiting who you were and who you are today. It’s navigating both the celebration and grief of growth with what that may mean for your future. The emo, alternative rock album is emotionally charged with both the highs and lows of Have Mercy’s life’s journey throughout the album. The new songs add additional depth to the album.
The first song “Alive” is the epitome of seeing the ellipses of a text message come and go when you are hoping to hear "I miss you” from the past partner you wanted to show up for you. The original version of “Alive”, it opens strong with the guitar and drums creating the rhythm. The new acoustic version allows the lyrics to stand out and tell the story. Having you focus in on repeated requests to speak the truth.
The title track “Numb” on the original album takes on an emotional tone with the acoustic version. It is stripped down to leave space for the sentimentality of the song to shine. The opening guitar breaks the silence quickly as the chords progress, leading you on a journey that pauses just before the chorus begins leaving you anticipating when the silence will break.
The newest addition Dead Letter opens strong with a melodic guitar rhythm that beckons you to the opening line. “Kiss me again, like you did on the night when we were kids..” This song reminisces of your first significant love and wondering if it would be the same if you dated who you are today. The song builds into a chorus where Brian questions the listener if he would still get the elusive ‘her’. This new addition to the deluxe version of “Numb” adds much-needed punctuation to what feels like an intimate letter exchange for each song on the album.
This Deluxe Album “Still Numb” by Have Mercy is another great expansion into what artistic expression through music should be: emotional, explorative, and honest. Swindle says, “This record was all about us three guys making music because we love it. It’s a challenge to create something special, and it feels very much like our debut album, 'The Earth Pushed Back.'”
The album is available for pre-save on platforms and will be out on Sept. 6th which is also will be the starting date of their UK tour. Check out updated tour dates on their socials.
