Dead Wells have officially arrived with their debut single “Stain,” a heavy first release from the Macclesfield four-piece that’s already been building quiet momentum across the North of England scene, and with “Stain,” it becomes clear why people have been paying attention.
The track moves quickly between dense guitar sections, colder stripped-back moments and aggressive bursts of noise without ever fully settling into one direction. Dead Wells pull from post-rock, shoegaze and heavier alternative influences, but the song feels more focused on atmosphere and tension than sticking to one genre.
Lyrically, “Stain” centres around themes of recklessness, mortality and the aftermath of sudden realisation. The band describe it as dealing with “metal and memory,” and there is definitely a rawness to the track that matches that idea.
Even though this is their first official release, “Stain” already sounds confident and fully formed, like the beginning of something Dead Wells already know exactly how to build.
