Multi-platinum singer, songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist David Kushner unveils his highly anticipated debut full-length album, The Dichotomy, via Miserable Music Group. This 17-song epic offers an intimate, autobiographical journey through Kushner's spiritual, philosophical, and musical exploration.
The album captures a dynamic narrative, moving from feelings of alienation, despair, and sin to a tentative acceptance of faith, while grappling with the persistent presence of doubt. Kushner's distinctive vocal range—shifting from a deep basso profundo that expresses life's darker moments to a soaring falsetto that hints at glimpses of divine light—mirrors the album's theme of internal conflict. True to its name, The Dichotomy is a study in opposites: God versus Satan, light against darkness, good and evil, physical versus spiritual, and the constant struggle between pleasure and pain. Through these contrasting elements, Kushner meditates on mortality, conflict, and the yearning for awakening and transcendence.
“The music and songs came first, which led me to formulate the meaning of the full project,” shares the 24-year-old Chicago native, now based in Nashville. Kushner's rise to fame began on TikTok, where he first posted fitness content before transitioning into offering life advice and, ultimately, embracing his passion for music just under three years ago.
Alongside the album release, Kushner dropped a music video for “Darkerside,” which premiered on MTV Live, MTVU, MTV Biggest Pop, Nickmusic, and even on the iconic Paramount Times Square billboards. “Darkerside” is part of the album's final section that traces his redemption, with Kushner pleading for divine guidance. "The music is about my faith," he explains, "but it’s also about my various experiences, dealing in the human condition and finding personal meaning that applies to everyone." The video, marked by moody symbolism, lush cinematography, and understated choreography, is a visual reflection of Kushner's signature style.
