After the success of their 2023 debut album, Get Real, Cardiff’s own CVC (Church Village Collective) makes a powerful comeback with their new single, “The Lowrider (Just About Meant To Be).” Known for their unique blend of next-gen yacht rock, the six-piece band continues to push boundaries, bringing their unmistakable sound back to fans with a track that seamlessly melds warm bass synth, Thriller-esque guitar riffs, and tight vocal harmonies reminiscent of the Bee Gees. The single marks CVC’s first release since their critically acclaimed album, and it showcases the band in top form—confident, exuberant, and ready to take their music to the next level.

The creation of “The Lowrider” is as colourful as the band itself. Co-songwriter and vocalist Dave Bassey reveals that the song was inspired by a heartfelt session in their old local pub, The City Arms in Cardiff. The lyrics revolve around his long-distance relationship and the sentiment of being “just about meant to be.” The song’s genesis came together organically when the band returned home, hit the ‘bass’ setting on the synth, and let the music flow. As for the song’s title, Bassey adds, “It’s called ‘The Lowrider’ because we thought it’d be great to get Snoop Dogg involved with it at some point, ‘cos it shares a lot of that West Coast flavour!”

The band’s journey since being named an NME 100 hotly-tipped act has been nothing short of impressive. Their year culminated in a Welsh Music Prize nomination, multiple singles playlisted on BBC 6 Music and Radio X, and a growing fanbase enamoured with their live performances. This success has driven CVC to aim higher, culminating in the recording of “The Lowrider” with renowned producer Chris Hughes in Wiltshire. Hughes, known for his work on mega-hit albums like Tears For Fears’ Songs From The Big Chair, helped CVC finesse their sound and elevate their bold ambitions.

Never ones to rest, CVC is happiest when on the road, performing live. The band has announced a series of some of their biggest UK shows to date, including a highly anticipated homecoming performance at Cardiff University’s Great Hall on December 14, 2024. This gig is expected to draw nearly 2,000 fans. Additional shows are scheduled in Glasgow, Leeds, and Oxford, with tickets set to go on general sale on September 13, 2024, at 10 a.m. Fans can find ticket links for all shows on the band’s official website, www.cvcband.com.
