thrown are back again with “critic”, out now through Arising Empire. The new single keeps their nu-metalcore sound but gives the song a really distinctive beat at the start.

The beat makes “critic” stand out before the guitars completely take over. It has this weirdly catchy rhythm that gets stuck in your head, then thrown drop into a ridiculously heavy breakdown. The transition is quick, which makes it even better because you don't get a huge warning that it's coming before the beat picks up again.

Lyrically, the song goes after people who are always judging and criticising, which fits the attitude of the track pretty well. Arising Empire describes it as a confrontational song aimed at “self-appointed” critics.

“critic” follows a busy run of releases for thrown in 2026, coming after “split” in April and “rehearsed” in June. The band has also spent the year playing shows across Europe and North America, and they’re now set to head out on a US headline tour with Norma Jean this fall.
