Pop-indie princess Rachel Chinouriri brought her UK headline tour to Glasgow’s QMU on 12 November. She performed a beautiful selection of emotional and gripping tracks to the sold-out crowd, mixed with evocative storytelling and chatty humour.

Leonie Biney, aged 20, opened up the night with a selection of delicate and moving songs from her EP ‘It Could Have Been Nice’ released this year. Her soft, emotive vocals perfectly set the scene before Chinouriri’s set began at 8.30 pm.
Rachel Chinouriri
seamlessly blends indie, soul, and pop in her debut album ‘What A Devastating Turn Of Events’ released in May 2024. Her Glasgow set held several popular album tracks including ‘Dumb Bitch Juice’, ‘Never Need Me’, and ‘All I Ever Asked’ - the latter of which gaining excess of 36 million streams on Spotify. Chinouriri has previously supported Louis Tomlinson on his UK arena tour in 2023, as well as grabbing a slot at Reading & Leeds and at the Rock En Seine festival in France. Her music style would suit listeners of Olivia Dean, Cat Burns, and Lizzy McAlpine.

Kicking off her set with ‘Garden Of Eden’, you could instantly tell it would be a special night. The crowd was quiet and respectful, with many delicately singing along and supporting the indie alt-pop singer from all corners of the room. Around halfway through the show, supporting act Leonie Biney joined Chinouriri on stage to play her latest single ‘Even’, making it a highlight of the set.

‘The Hills’ was another special track in the set, with much of the crowd having fun and moving around. In this track, Chinouriri confidently disguises deep contemplative lyrics with catchy upbeat instrumentals. The poignant lyricism explores difficult feelings of imposter syndrome and self-doubt, from a tough period when Chinouriri was living in LA. This was unique to experience live, particularly from experiencing the skills of Rachel’s band, with Kristina playing bass guitar, Mike on drums, AC on guitar, and Maddie on keys.

Heading toward the end of the set, Rachel played a particularly stirring track ‘
Robbed’. This track grabs your attention with powerfully emotive lyrics, illustrating the effects of sudden loss and the process of handling grief. Thought-provoking lyrics “You were robbed of summer; I was robbed of you”, puts you at a standstill, encouraging you to think about your own loved ones and the temporariness of life.

Rachel finished off her set with ‘Never Need Me’, joining in with fans in the pit, creating a lasting impression and memories for the crowd.

In March 2025, Chinouriri is set to bring her memorable and gripping tracks to the
Short N’ Sweet tour, supporting Sabrina Carpenter on her UK leg next year.
