Cherry Bomb is the Los Angeles–based solo project of Mandy Lee, best known as the frontwoman of alt-pop band MisterWives. She begins the new year with the release of her debut single, “Never Be Me (M★therf★cker),” alongside an accompanying music video.
The track is a synth-driven dance-pop song centred on independence, self-trust, and letting go of external validation. Lee has described it as “a defiant Declaration of Independence dressed up in maximalist synth pop,” written during a period of personal transition and creative reassessment.
The music video, co-directed by Lee and longtime collaborator Matty Vogel (Billie Eilish, 30 Seconds To Mars, MisterWives), was created independently with the help of friends. It features Lee in a wedding dress on an outdoor track, surrounded by women in bold, colourful gowns—an image meant to reflect release, momentum, and forward motion.
Cherry Bomb marks a new creative chapter for Lee, allowing her to explore themes of autonomy, identity, and reclaimed confidence outside the framework of a band. Reflecting on the project, Lee explains that the song helped her reconnect with parts of herself she felt she had lost and become a reminder to step away from spaces that no longer allowed her to grow.
