Cafuné’s upcoming album Bite Reality was already coming together as a mix of digital chaos and emotion, and the newly revealed collaboration with Riovaz, “Temporary Lover,” sharpens the edges. Sedona Schat’s voice punches through the wild electro-pop beat, then Riovaz comes in smooth and laid-back, cooling things down with his mellow flow. The track plays like an elegy for a love dissolving in slow motion, “watching as a relationship slips away through the cracks” while guitars scuzz and drums refuse to let anything stay comfortable.

“We first learned about Riovaz a few years ago after he covered one of our tunes, and were instantly drawn to his unique style of yearning club music,” says Cafuné’s Noah Yoo. “I was listening to him a lot when we wrote ‘Temporary Lover,’ so to have him be a part of the final record feels full circle.” That circularity—of influence, memory, and artistic convergence—gives the song and the album a kind of layered resonance.

So far, Cafuné has offered glimpses into the album’s emotional and stylistic breadth with two prior singles: the thematic nucleus “e-Asphyxiation,” and the sultry, bossa-nova-tinged “Attack + Release.”
