Bau Cat Take On Online Misogyny With New Song ‘Traposphere’
Prestatyn band Bau Cat release ‘Traposphere’, a playful and angry new song about misogyny, insecurity and misinformation online.

The North Wales three-piece band Bau Cat, made up of Abby Butler on vocals and bass, Jim Davies on guitar and vocals, and Jack Wells on drums and vocals, have released their new single, ‘Traposphere’, through Libertino. The song is about the online “Manosphere”, which includes online spaces where misogyny, misinformation and male insecurity can be common.
Bau Cat use humour and satire in the song to talk about these issues. The band have described ‘Traposphere’ as “a bit of tough love”. The song is angry but also playful, and the band are direct about what they think of the culture they are talking about. For Bau Cat, the new single is also an important song for the band creatively. They mentioned feeling that they have found the sound they want to continue with.
The band have taken influence from groups including The Modern Lovers, The B-52s, Orange Juice and early R.E.M. However, ‘Traposphere’ still has its own sound and shows where Bau Cat are going with their music. With its subject matter, energy and straightforward lyrics, the song introduces another side of the Prestatyn band and gives an idea of what they are working towards next.
The song was recorded live at Studio Tecna in Sheffield with producer David Glover, who has also worked with Self Esteem and Slow Club. The whole band played together in the same room during the recording. There were also only a small amount of overdubs, which helped keep the recording close to the bands live performances.
