LA-based artist Ana Luna is back with a new track, “Dance in a Trance,” an atmospheric, emotionally honest song that reflects on the messy space that follows a breakup.
The song pairs Ana’s soft, hypnotic vocals with cinematic, sweeping production. It tells the story of a past relationship that felt intense and magnetic, but ultimately it was a “caged romance,” as she sings. The phrase, pulled from something her ex once said, became the emotional centrepiece of the track.
“This one wasn’t about making anyone the bad guy—it was very much about me,” Ana says. “I’d run into my ex and he wouldn’t even look at me. When we did lock eyes, the energy just felt… different.”
That sense of disconnection and confusion is something the song leans into, rather than running from. It’s not a typical breakup anthem — there’s no dramatic explosion, just a quiet unravelling and a lot of questions left hanging in the air.
Born in Ukraine, raised in Paris, and now living in Los Angeles, Ana has taken her time finding her voice. Though she’s always felt drawn to music, she started out in acting and only began sharing her songs publicly in recent years. Her sound drifts between dream pop, alt-rock, and moody ballads, all rooted in emotional honesty.
“This song lives in that duality of: either you’ve always been this person and I was blind, or remind me why I loved you so I don’t feel like an idiot,” she adds.
As she works toward her debut album, “Dance in a Trance” offers a clear look at where Ana’s heading: inward, upward, and always unafraid to sit with the complicated stuff.
